The US ESTA Application Process

Looking to Travel to the USA from Greece? Here’s what you need to know, courtesy of https://estavisa.gr

The US ESTA is an electronic authorization that all eligible international visitors are required to obtain before they travel to the United States. If you wish to enter the United States under the Visa Waiver Program, then you need to apply for the ESTA before you travel.

You should apply for the ESTA if:

    1. You are a citizen or national of a country that is a part of the Visa Waiver Program
    2. You do not currently have a visitor’s visa
    3. You will be visiting the United States for a period of 90 days or less
    4. Your trip is for business or pleasure
    5. You are seeking a new authorisation (you do not need to have immediate travel plans to request an ESTA)

You will need to have a valid passport issued by a country that is a part of the Visa Waiver Program in order to apply. There is a fee to make an ESTA application. The fee is currently $14 but may be subject to change. You should apply directly using the official US government website. There are some other third party sites that allow people to make an ESTA application, but these sites are not authorized. They may charge higher fees under the guise of checking your application, but they cannot guarantee that your application will be accepted, and if you run into problems during the application process then having gone through a third party could delay the application.

The government recommends that all applications are made at least 3 days before you are due to travel, but you can apply earlier and it is a good idea to do so. You can also put your application in later, even as close as the same day. Usually, the process takes just minutes to complete and you will have an answer to your application by email almost immediately. It is not guaranteed that you will be answered right away, however, and if there are any issues with your application there may be a delay in it being processed. For this reason, it makes sense to apply as early as possible, especially if you are confident your travel plans are set.

The ESTA is a pre-authorization, and you will still need to clear customs and immigration when you land. All that the ESTA does is clear you for travel to the United States, and there are other vetting processes that will apply once you arrive in the country.…
